Akagami no Shirayuki-hime Intro

In my sleep-laden mind at 1 am yesterday (today?) I had a theme planned out for this week. It was going to be Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and what the big debate over the two is in the manga/anime community. Well, that was until I looked over at Hulu for some anime to watch to tire me out and found THIS.

Let me tell you, it woke me up in seconds. This, THIS, was a huge surprise. Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (which translates to Snow White with the Red Hair) was a manga I started reading years ago.

I had no idea that Funimation (a huge anime-producing company) decided to air an anime based on the manga. Not only that, but they’re currently airing season two!

Alright, enough of that, let’s get to a brief over-view so you can get a feel for this anime.

This anime is medieval (castles, nobility all all that jazz) and mostly takes place in the city of Vale.

Our dear Shirayuki (pictured above) is an herbalist in the city of Tanbarun. Her business is pretty solid and all the people around are enchanted by her hair (one of the few times I have ever seen a reference to a main character’s outrageous hair color by the way). She lives a pretty tranquil life until the prince of her land, Raj, decides that he wants to make her his concubine. This is based solely on the fact that her hair is rare and beautiful and he’s a selfish brat and thinks he can just have anything he wants.

What a jerk, no?

Instead of backing down, Shirayuki decides to run away and start new in another kingdom. Things get intense quite quickly when she is tracked down by Raj’s men and…well, I’m gonna let you find out the rest of that on your own.

For a bit more information you can hop over here, and if you want to watch it you can click here. The episodes are only about 20 minutes each–a pretty good break from whatever it is you are doing. Just go ahead and click that second link, you can thank me later.
