Fairy Tail Background

So, after some mild internal debate of choosing between Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist I decided to steer way right and talk about Fairy Tail instead. Why?

Well you see: dragons, magic, and knight gear is involved. See those personal weaknesses towards medieval cool stuff strike again? I’m sure this won’t be the last time.

Anyways, let me tell you about Fairy Tail.

This anime is set in the fictional country of Fiore. In this universe there are people that are called mages or wizards (take your pick). Magic is born into some people and they have this medieval economy thing going on. Those with magic join guilds (if they want to be reputable) and use their magic on jobs.

In order to join a guild you have to be accepted by the guild master. It’s more simple if you think of guilds like unions, they have help boards of people requesting mages to do jobs for them and they’re paid back in jewels (their monetary system) or valuables.

The first episode features one of our main characters, Lucy Heartfilia (blonde girl to the left of center above) as she wonders in a small port town. It is here that she meets Natsu through a wild ride of identity theft, lying, and devious intent, they become friends.

I would recommend this anime to those who have time on their hands because it’s pretty long. Right now there are 269 episodes out and 471 issues of manga out.

If you dare to dive in and let this anime inevitably take over your life click here. If you want a bit more background click here.

  1. This is a pretty decent summary of FT, though you did get a couple things wrong. Fiore is the country, not the town, and FT is up to almost 300 episodes now. So you were correct when you say this anime will take over your life!!!
