Fullmetal Alchemist vs Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Alright, it’s been promised and it’s been a long time coming: Fullmetal Alchemist.

To Brotherhood or not to Brotherhood that is the question.

The answer? Personally, I would say go for Brotherhood.

Why? Well you see, I have a lot of beef with Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA). The first few episodes of both versions are pretty much the same but as the seasons progress, they branch off into two VERY different places.

The thing is that FMA was released before the manga was finished. It started off of the manga but it soon ran out of material and they had to freestyle it, an boy did they freestyle.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not gonna bash the manga on you and tell you you’re wrong for liking FMA–I just believe that the story in Brotherhood is more cohesive and real.

Well, as real as alchemists in a different world can get.

That and I prefer the animation style taken in Brotherhood. It’s more angular, and makes me feel like it’s less of a cutesy anime.

(See? Brotherhood is on the right, FMA is on the left)

Which it isn’t.

People new to FMA and Brotherhood, please tread carefully, they will BOTH shatter your heart to pieces.

Don’t let the lack of angles in FMA fool you. People die, things get real and it just becomes a mess.

For those who are new to FMA/B and are really lost, fear not, I’ll post an intro post in a bit, I just wanted to state my opinion first so that there isn’t confusion later.

Oh, one more thing. Funimation owns both anime versions so in the end, it doesn’t matter, the same company profits from both versions no matter what your preference is.

(Sorry, that was a downer message, but hey, I feel that people don’t pay attention to those things sometimes. You can kinda look at it like they’re fixing what they did when they jumped the gun with FMA before the manga was finished.)
